What a wonderfully eclectic debut, this eponymously titled collection of Anjaliness.

From the opening tangental notes of single Lazy Lagoon through the distinctly arabic Strawberry Mousse and (quelle surprise!) Arabian Queen to the rich Hammond layers of Space Lust (In The Space Dust), this album ripples with samples of filmatic scores, glossed over with rich, exotic chill-out beats.

Having recently acquired a live agent, we are told that Anjali will be scheduling some live dates soon, and being as she is a one-woman DJ/singer/multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/producer, these shows are definitely something to look forward to.

There are some really special moments on this CD.

Fine for any chill room DJ or stressed office executive, the album sweeps and soars, with Anjali's vocals ranging from terrified wails to sultry whispers. One can imagine listening to this album as a soundtrack antidote while walking aimlessly through the noise and bustle of a big city. Jarvis Cocker said in an interview once that he used to do precisely such a thing in Sheffield while listening to John Barry - if you can't find any CDs by him (and why not?!) then you could do much worse than give Anjali a spin.
