Former Eels bassist Tommy Walter is the man behind Abandoned Pools, and this debut single gives a fair idea of their sound - not as quirky or intense as The Eels can be, but good enough to establish Walter as a talent in his own right.

The Remedy is a crunching rock number, which is thankfully more reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins than Nickelback. The piano led verse leads into a downright majestic chorus - the lyrics aren't exactly inspired ("you can be the remedy and I can be the enemy") but it sounds great.

With an impressive album Humanistic about to be released, Abandoned Pools could soon be a name to be recokoned with.
