Blue + Elton John - Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word

A cover of an Elton John song by a boy band would ordinarily be enough to have me heading for the hills, but this sassy rendition from Blue - watched over by Sir Elton himself - is a cut above expectations, largely because of the strength of the song.

The vocal styles of Sir Elton and his new charges are wildly different of course - but the combination creates a highly enjoyable pop single, despite the underlying pain of the lyrics.

And at this time of year (Christmas) it's good to hear something that isn't (entirely) a novelty record, but instead has some depth. True, Blue are somewhat superfluous in the project, but this release should boost sales of both acts' current albums.
