Chromeo's autumn single is another esteeming bow to eighties funk masters from Prince to Cameo. Slinky guitars and synth sounds are summoned up by the hip hop loving duo.

Bonafied Lovin' is a bona fide eighties dance track. Get your espedrilles and pastel coloured jackets ready to swing to this. P-Thugg's beats are infectious, the lyrics self conscious and amusing, the rhymes are clever and popping vocals from the softly sung Dave1 complete the full bodied groove. This is intentionally neither ironic nor a guilty pleasure. It's a resurrection of a few choice tropes from a genre of bad taste recycled for our welcoming ears.

The evocation of the eighties is authentic, not an impersonation or a mundane montage. Though they follow the period formula superbly it's a fresh, exciting sound. Their previous releases didn't really pique the CD buying public but hopefully things are about to change.
