Who's Gonna Find Me (annoyingly minus the question mark) shows all the qualities that have made The Coral's version of indie psychedelic folk rock so classy. OK, their retro sound evoking the likes of The Doors and Echo and the Bunnymen isn't that original but they've created some great songs.
It would be untrue to say they sound revitalized as they never lost their touch. But after a fallow 2006 (their first year without an album since debuting in 2002), when they almost called it a day ten years after forming, the band are back in mighty fine form with seemingly effortless melodies and irresistible hooks.
Frontman James Skelly gives his usual assured vocal delivery in this song about loneliness after a relationship break-up. "The face in the mirror / It's a face I've never met / Until I forgive her I'll remember to forget" suggests that the singer even loses his sense of identity in the pain of loss.
If this first single off their forthcoming album Roots & Echoes is representative of the Scousers' new material, we have a treat in store.
