Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Look For The Woman (Sunday Best)
UK release date: 28 April 2008
This is a love song with a difference. Not for Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip the conventional delivery of a love so intense it hurts - which would normally require the addition of swirling strings or an emotive upsurge in the chorus.
Instead a fragile rap cuts to the bone, with its clever but natural rhymes concluding "the state of you and me isn't great as you can see", before the affecting chorus digs in with a resilient "love you too much to leave". As moody and self-examining as the song becomes, it carries a message of underlying hope that things will sort out.
It's to Le Sac and Pip's credit that they deliver this message without any of those standard cliches mentioned above, and that they command a bruising electro mix from Fake Blood, a rare outing behind the remixing desk for Zane Lowe and a retake with tolling piano from DJ Yoda. The original will bring you back, mind, and heightens the anticipation for the duo's debut album, dropping shortly.
