The Departure's rise since their inception has been nothing short of staggering. Forming only in January of last year, they've gone on to sign a 5 album deal with Parlophone and have lent support to a whole host of established acts such as The Killers and seminal punks Gang of Four. Their output thus far has been limited but rather thrilling, something that has earned them a devoted following and much critical acclaim.
Indeed, Lump In My Throat is yet another flawless single from the Northampton quintet that should serve as a wake up call to anyone who may still be inexplicably ignoring them. Like their last two releases, it's a track built firmly around ultra taut, combating guitar riffs, a pulsating bass line and lead singer David Jones' dark and distinctive vocal delivery.
All this is coupled with a big and instantly memorable chorus, the kind that Franz Ferdinand patented and shifted their units with last year. Their debut album, Dirty Words, is out in June and on the evidence presented so far, it looks as if we can expect something truly special.
