One of the more welcome success stories of 2002, Doves' third offering from The Last Broadcast is another slice of gloriously uplifting, guitar driven rock.

A gentle strumming acoustic opener lets Jimi Godwin's lyrics be heard more clearly than usual, and it's clear that they're directed at someone on the brink ("Life it can't be easy, but you can't just leave it"). It all builds quite beautifully to the bellowing climax of "would you give it all away?" and is another Doves song that has quality written all over it.

Perhaps the anthemic Words would have been more of an obvious choice for a single, but if you need any more persuasion before investing in one of the albums of the year, this will do nicely.
