As far away as can be imagined from Ben Esser's musical past in cover bands at Pontins, I Love You is, we suppose, a musical knee-jerk reaction to being sick of playing predictable pop classics. If one of his former bands were to break in to this during one of their Pontins sets, it'd be fair to say that'd be the moment every middle-aged parent decided it was time for bed.

It's two parts Mull Historical Society to one part Vehicles And Animals-era Athlete, with its jerky cut and paste effect and masses of quirky little idiosynchracies mixing up something that otherwise sounds extremely band-like for a one man (and a bunch of instruments and computer) project.

On the b-side, Esser sound like a proper Hoxton scenester band, with a jerky rhythm and the kind of lead vocals and backing vocals combination that just screams trendy haircut and skinny jeans.
