Gomez have never quite replicated the instant success of their Bring It On debut - the last album In Our Gun being shamefully ignored by both the record buying public and the critics.

However, Catch Me Up shows that, if anything, Gomez have always been ahead of their time. In 1998, a bunch of students playing retro country blues was seen as rather uncool. Now of course, you can't move for twentysomethings paying homage to figures of the past - as artists as diverse as The White Stripes, The Coral and Jamie Cullum have shown.

This, the first single from the forthcoming Split The Difference album, is an energetic love song that skedaddles along at a fair old pace, and should restore the band to their former glories. It's good to have them back.
