The High Wire - Easy

The High Wire seem to be specialists in making the kind of pop songs that are both beautifully sad and incredibly uplifting. If there is an element of sadness to Easy, then it lost in a warm fog of methadone security. Like the moment you get a piece of popping candy stuck at the back of your throat, The High Wire fizz with a sweetness that is always just out of reach but that you can taste anyway.

It's futile to try and explain just how they achieve such a wonderous sound, but somehow they create something that sounds like a pastoral My Bloody Valentine. Except that isn't quite it, because whilst there is certainly a something of a shoegazing element to proceedings, Easy feels far more inclusive and welcoming.

Similarly, B-side Hit A Low drifts along like a dandelion umbrella caught on an updraft, and the gentle melodies and vocal make this a single that makes you dream of a perfect summer. There's nothing precarious about this High Wire, so feel free to fall into their tender, perfect, pop world.
