Joan Wasser's debut album was something of a understated delight, its mix of folk, blues and jazz, all topped off with Wasser's haunting voice, proving irresistibly addictive.
If To Be Loved is anything to go by, expect more of the same for her second album, due for release this month. This veritably shimmers along, all hazy, lazy jazzy rhythms with Joan sounding quite content and pleased with her lot: "I'm so happy to be loved....'cos I'm an awful mess, I haven't a care".
Not as avant-garde or flamboyant as former collaborators Antony Hegarty and Rufus Wainwright, Wasser looks set to follow contemporaries such as Feist and Cat Power into more success this year.
