A blissful vocal melody and sugar sweet delivery isn't quite enough to help Land Of Talk's likeable chugging americana vs art-rock falling just short of the mark.
A three-piece from Montreal, Land Of Talk have spent the summer touring Europe with Tapes 'n' Tapes. In Elizabeth Powell, Land Of Talk have a frontwoman with an effortlessly beautiful, seemingly lazy voice, though lyrically, Some Are Lakes fails to inspire.
Occasionally, this single touches brilliance, with pretty guitar fills, and an attention-thieving chorus. However, Some Are Lakes is a little bloated and unaffecting. If Land Of Talk work on refining their songs, adding a few subtle hooks, they're onto a winner.
