If ever there was an artist who was the very definition of the phrase 'under-rated', it's Leona Naess. Despite releasing three albums of beautifully crafted, catchy pop/rock, she's still most likely to be referred to 'Ryan Adams' former fiancee' (her third, self-titled album was all about their break-up).
In the five years since we last heard from the London-born, New York-based songwriter, she's been recording thirteen lo-fi albums, the highlights of which will be collected on the forthcoming fourth album Thirteens. Heavy Like Sunday is very much in the vein of her last record - downbeat, wistful and quite beautiful.
The fact that it's pretty low-key and a limited edition single means that it won't make Naess the big star that she deserves to be, but for those in the know, this is a fine return of a very talented singer.
