The success of the Scissor Sisters in the UK
has left the way open for further high camp imports,
and Meloboy - described as "Cologne's hottest,
brightest and gayest new talent" (even though he hails
from Brixton!) - will be hoping to capitalise.
Unfortunately this track is lukewarm and sounds
clumsy. The vocoded vocals and the heavy plod of the
rhythm track may well derive from New York's finest,
but the lyrics let him down in every way. Couplets
like: "He's my pot of gold and he's not very old,"
whilst amusing in one sense, are not likely to win
over Radio 2 listeners quite that effortlessly. The
arrangement is sparse and unappealing, although the
remixes make more of a case for dancing.
A missed chance, then, for bandwagon jumping -
Meloboy's going to have to do a bit better than this
to make people sit up and take notice.
