A second teaser for Mr Scruff's imminent long player, Kalimba continues in the Scruff tradition of good humoured funk. Though even by his standards, it's a subtle triumph.
Not overly extravert, it is however blessed with a funky bassline, a clever build up of strings and the sort of beat that commands the shaking of at least one limb.
It leads a generous EP selection, topped up with Donkey Ride and a fuller length version of the title track. That's before mentioning Give Up To Get, an eight minute construction whose winding bassline and softly meditative samples complement the title track perfectly.
Mr Scruff rarely puts a foot wrong - and here he's at his thoughtful yet entertaining best.
