Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Breathless / There She Goes, My Beautiful World (Mute)
UK release date: 15 November 2004
South American-sounding pipes set the scene for the laid-back calypso of Breathless, a charming love song with a gentleness we haven't heard from Nick Cave since The Boatman's Call. First track of a double A-side single from the new twin album, Breathless is from the more melodic The Lyre Of Orpheus.
There She Goes My Beautiful World is from the wilder Abattoir Blues, and features the London Community Gospel Choir giving their all behind Cave in semi-manic preacher mode - a rattling good song, though the chorus is so repetitive it grates after a while.
They're both good tracks but the funny thing is, I like the bonus track Under This Moon better than either - why wasn't this on the album?
