Narrowly pipping the Arctic Monkeys to the prize for worst primate-based name, Saucy Monky couldn't be further removed from their scenester baiting cousins. Good Day Down sounds a lot like what the Josie And The Pussycats soundtrack might have done if anyone had actually listened to it.

For those who are not up to date on their chick-flick, rock 'n' roll blockbusters, Josie and Co were an all-girl power-pop band with 'attitude', like The Spice Girls, but plugged in. Saucy Monky do have male members, although they are well and truly drowned out by a Girl Power shaped wave of catchy chorus, breathy harmonies and yelping, which would be no bad thing if Good Day Down was anything other than the same dispensable pop rubbish that those wily Hollywood felines were peddling. It sounds like it was written for the next teenage blockbuster about 'growing up', oozing with drippy lyrics about being 'let down' and predictable sing/angst-along chorus.

Maybe girls singing songs like Busted or McFly is the last record company goldmine to be discovered, or maybe Saucy Monky actually made it on their raw talent. Who knows? "Leave it to you to bring my good day down," goes the chorus. Sorry guys.
