Simone White has one of those voices - one that you can just lie back and luxuriate in. It doesn't seem to matter what's she singing, but you feel that all is right with the world when she is.
I Didn't Have A Summer Romance is a beautiful reworking of an old Goffin/King number - relatively obscure compared to the rest of their back catalogue, it's perfectly suited to White's tone of wistful regret. Producer Mark Nevers recreates the fragile atmosphere of his work with Lambchop and Will Oldham, and does a beautiful job.
She may not be the hippest name to drop this summer, but Simone White could easily slip unnoticed into the mainstream. Timeless stuff.
