Ah, novelty Christmas records, don't you just love 'em? The Skandi Girls are four young women from Scandinavian countries (hey, did you see what they did there?) who have set the Can Can tune to an absolutely horrible Euro-pop dance beat. They're "putting the fun back into Christmas" apparently. Oh good.

It turns out that the girls were discovered by Blue's manager, and it says a lot that after 30 seconds of this you'll be yearning to hear some of Duncan et al's faux soul pop. Admittedly, it's horribly catchy but then again so is 'flu and nobody has tried selling that to the British public yet. The only way you'll enjoy this is if you're horribly drunk and enjoy watching your boss make a fool of himself at the office Christmas party.

OK, so it's all a bit of fun but it doesn't stop me from being a mean old Scrooge. Thankfully, Band Aid 20 will probably ensure this doesn't make the Christmas Number One but that won't stop you hearing it an awful lot over the festive season. Just count down the days until 2 January.

- John Murphy
