Taken from the Glasgow quintet's recent third offering, Final Straw, this perky slap of guitar-driven power pop is an excellent introduction to the band, for anyone yet to discover their many delights.

There's the distinct feeling of a new beginning about this track, heralded by an embarrassment of guitar hooks, string samples and a lyric that manages to be life-affirming yet mournful within the space of a few bars. It's got a pretty decent tune too.

Expertly produced by Garrett Lee, who achieves a widescreen sound with plenty of quirky sampled drop-ins, there's an invigorating relentless momentum to Spitting Games, which just might be the song to propel Snow Patrol into the mainstream.
