"Urban pop". Erm well what is it? It pretty much does what it says on the tin: it's got an urban "flava" but is pop music at its heart. VS are the latest ambassadors of this fledgling genre. They're a talented quintet with four of them from the South East and one from the North West - the two biggest hotspots for urban music in the UK.

Having been thrown to the lions supporting Blue on their recent arena tour, survival is a credit to VS. Debut single Love You Like Mad gives a glimpse of why they survived. There are a fair few parallels to Blue's music in the song but it is much more chilled out and benefits from female vocals. There?s a little hint of rapping with a token reference to "ice" but the song lacks the edge of the group's favourite artists (the likes of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.)

That just goes to show that VS aren't fronting. They know their place as chart fodder and nothing else - which is refreshing to see. Nothing about Love You Like Mad suggests it isn't going to chart highly, and I'm quite intrigued to see what's next from VS.
